On monday 15th sept. 2014 Google launched three Android One smartphones Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V and Spice Dream Uno. Google is partnering with local handset manufacturer like Micromax, Karbonn and Spice for the latest Android One devices, a move that will keet prices low. These smartphones aimed at emerging market in India, priced around 6200-6500 INR. With latest offering, Google looks to capture the low cost segment in the world's fastest growing smartphones market.
The Android One smartphones are exclusively available across eCommerce online portal like Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal. The offline sales of these phones will start around Diwali.
All of these devices runs on the latest version of android and will receive updates directly from Google. This is just a beginning, Google plans massive expansion from India going a head. After India, Android One phones makes their way to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Indonesia and the Philippines before end of the year. Other phone manufacturers like HTC, Asus, Acer, Panasonic, and Lenovo are joining the program, alongwith Qualcomm(the chip maker giant).
These three smartphones have similar features hardware specifications such as dual SIM card slots, a FM radio tuner, and a microSD card slot for additional storage. These phones pre-loaded with Google apps such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Search, and Google Translate. These devices will be among the first to get the upcoming Android L update. Google also says that Airtel is offering a promotion to reduce data costs for the customers who buys them with Airtel SIM. Have Airtel as operator user will get free updates and 200MB data per month on top of the regular cap for application downloads from Google Play store for the first six months. Google also announced that in coming weeks YouTube app will get offline video playback, allowing users to play them later without data connectivity.
All these Android One smartphones have common specifications which includes a 4.5-inch (480x854 pixels) IPS FWVGA display; 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor; 1GB of RAM, 4GB of inbuilt storage; expandable storage support via microSD card (up to 32GB); a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash; a 2-megapixel front camera; Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, and a 1700mAh battery.
